Hardik Pandya bowls in the nets in Dubai on Wednesday. Which led to his chances of bowling in India’s crucial Men’s T20 World Cup against New Zealand on 31 October.
After 10 wickets from Pakistan, India has little room for error in Group 2. And Hardik Pandya’s gradual return to full bowling fitness after back surgery has affected the team’s balance.
Hardik Pandya bowled 16 overs in three ODIs and one T20I during India’s tour of Sri Lanka in July and did not bowl a single over in the UAE leg of the IPL for Mumbai Indians. He also injured his shoulder while batting against Pakistan. And after India’s innings, he did not take the field as he had to go for a scan.
On Wednesday, in Dubai, Hardik Pandya did a fitness exercise. This included the supervision of short sprint, strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai and physio Nitin Patel. After this he bowled Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shardul Thakur in the nets for about 20 minutes. India’s head coach Ravi Shastri and mentor MS Dhoni also monitored Hardik Pandya’s progress. Then, after his brief bowling stint, Hardik Pandya took a throwdown from batting coach Vikram Rathor.
Hardik Pandya’s inclusion in India’s T20 World Cup squad had raised eyebrows due to his fitness concerns. Before the game against Pakistan, skipper Virat Kohli had said that he expects Hardik to bowl at least two overs in every game during the tournament.
