Stars like Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana believe that the women’s IPL can help newcomers make a smooth transition from domestic to international cricket. The inaugural women’s IPL is set to take place in March. Some of the country’s top players, from national team captain Harmanpreet to senior opener Mandhana, are looking forward to the event, which will also see foreign stars participate.

Speaking on Star Sports show ‘Follow the Blues’, Harmanpreet said –

“IPL will be a good platform for players who are really good but you know for them. International cricket is still something that they cannot change their approach and mindset overnight. But in IPL, when If they get a chance to play against foreign players, it will give them a platform, they can play well, they can understand what international cricket is all about.

“So, when they are playing for the Indian team, they will not face any extra pressure, because right now the players who are selected from the domestic teams, sometimes I can see that they are empty, they don’t understand. Figuring out how to change their game plan.

“To bridge that gap, the tournament will play a major role. So, in the years to come, with girls playing in the IPL, we will definitely see some big changes in their performance.” The Women in Blue have made great strides over the past year but haven’t been able to win a championship. The team made it to the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup. They defeated Sri Lanka in T20I and ODI bilateral series. They won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games and achieved a historic 3–0 win in England.”

Talking further about the IPL, Harmanpreet said –

“IPL is a big step forward for women’s cricket because before that, we have seen Australia Board, England Board, they have seen WBBL and The Hundred.

“We have discussed that there is a big difference between domestic and international cricket, because even if you play well in domestic cricket and then suddenly play international, you don’t understand what to do and how to do it. “
