Cricket legend Matthew Hayden has announced that he will not coach the Australian team following the treatment of Justin Langer. Hayden is a member of the commentary panel for the ongoing Men’s Cricket World Cup in India.

Poor relationship between Langer and the playing group in Australia
Langer captained the national team from 2018 until his departure in early 2022. After Cricket Australia offered him a six-month contract extension. According to multiple reports, relations between Langer and the playing group had deteriorated in the final months of his tenure, leading to a tense atmosphere between CA chiefs and senior players.
Hayden and Langer formed Australia’s most successful opening Test partnership
Hayden, who formed one of Australia’s most successful opening Test partnerships with Langer, criticized the lack of public support from senior players that led to Langer’s highly publicized resignation.
“I will not coach Australia, no,” Hayden said.
“After Justin and his treatment, I’m not trying to train for Australia because I don’t think it’s something I would enjoy.

“I really like Australian cricket and I really like broadcasting on the current cricket team. I think they’re a great team but in terms of investment, no, it’s not something I would even consider.”
Not as chairman of selectors, not as a coach, not as a board director. There is no leadership at any level that has a former great of Australian cricket working within that team unit.
“It’s amazing to me, given that we have come out of three great eras or decades of Australian cricket.”
