ODI World Cup will be played in India this year. All the ODI series currently being played for this mega event are being assessed under the Cricket World Cup Super League. This assessment is being done among 13 teams, out of which the top-8 teams of the table will take direct entry in the main round of the World. The rest of the teams will have to play qualifying rounds with the associate countries. After the second ODI of the ongoing series between Pakistan and New Zealand on Wednesday, there has been a big change in this table. After the victory in this match, the Kiwi team has benefited while Team India has suffered.

Team India’s loss

In the current table till Wednesday, Team India was on top. But in the second ODI of the series played in Karachi, New Zealand defeated Pakistan and harmed the Indian team. Actually New Zealand was earlier in second place in the table with 130 points. At the same time, Team India currently has 139 points. Now after defeating Pakistan by 79 runs in the second ODI, the Kiwi team has come on top with 140 points. At the same time, Team India has now slipped to second place. On the other hand, after this defeat. Pakistan’s health has not been affected much and it remains in its third position in the table with 130 points.

In this Super League, each team gets 10 points for a win, five points for a tie/no result/abandoned match and no points for a loss. In the end, the top 8 teams of this table will get direct entry in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 to be held in India. The remaining teams will have to play the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier along with five associate teams. Two teams from the qualifying tournament will go to the World Cup. Then the main round of ODI World Cup 2023 will be played among 10 teams.

Team India will Qualify

Another special thing about this table is that being the host nation, Team India is already qualified. If Team India stays in top-8. Then eight teams including it will qualify for the main round. Otherwise top-7 teams and eight teams including India will qualify. The biggest threat this time looms over former champions Sri Lanka who are at 9th position and South Africa who are at 11th position in this table. At the same time, the two-time world champion West Indies is just on the border line i.e. in 8th place. In such a situation, there is still a lot of time in the World Cup. If the tournament is to be held in October-November, till then many changes can be seen.

Bumper Advantage for Afghanistan

Afghanistan has 115 points so far and now after the cancellation of the ODI series against Afghanistan by Australia, the Afghan team will get the full 30 points. The team will come on top with 145 points according to the current table. At the same time, Australia has 120 points and not playing this series can cause loss to the team. The Australian team also has to play a three-match ODI series against India in February-March. It has to be seen how costly it is for Australia to withdraw from this series.
