How much Virat Kohli longed for the 28th Test century, expressed his pain in front of the head coach

Virat Kohli ended his three-year century drought in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Virat Kohli scored his 28th Test century against Australia in Ahmedabad. After the match, Kohli admitted that getting out on a low score was bothering him. In a chat with head coach Rahul Dravid, Kohli revealed that the weight of expectations was finding it difficult for him to handle.

BCCI has posted a video of Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli talking, Kohli said –

“To be honest, the low scores were weighing me down. The hunger to score a hundred is something that makes you grow as a batsman. I let that happen to me for a while. Not one of those who will be happy after scoring 40-45 runs. I take pride in the team’s performance.”

He further said – “It is not like when Virat Kohli has to stand and play long innings. When I am playing at 40, I know that I can score 150. It was eating me up. Why wasn’t I scoring big runs? I enjoy being able to stand up when the team needs me and score runs in tough situations. The fact that I wasn’t able to do that was bothering me.”

Head coach Rahul Dravid asked how difficult it was when he was not scoring runs, Kohli replied –

“If I’m being honest, it’s very difficult because the moment you walk out of the hotel room, everyone from the person you meet outside to the bus driver says we want a century.”

Kohli further said – “So it goes on in your mind all the time, but the good thing about playing for a long time is that you overcome these challenges.” Kohli also said that he never cares about records.
