Rohit Sharma brought up his half-century in just 66 balls on a Nagpur pitch where all Australian batsmen struggled and those who looked settled like Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne found it difficult to score freely.

Waugh said on Star Sports –

“Rohit Sharma is the key to the Indian batting. He is a very good player of spin. He has scored so many runs, that’s the point.” Australia were left behind after Rohit remained unbeaten on 56 at stumps on the first day. By just 100 runs.

Former Australia opener Mark Waugh praised the Indian skipper’s strokeplay and ability to take the match away from the oppositio. Saying Rohit Sharma is the ‘key’ to the Indian batting line-up.

Waugh interestingly compared the playing styles of Rohit and Virat Kohli in the longest format and said that the former India captain is someone who likes to ‘dig in’ and bat long.

Waugh said while comparing Rohit and Virat –

“You look at the rest of the Indian players, I think Kohli digs in and takes his time but Sharma is someone who can take the game away from Australia very quickly. He looked like a different player who Was batting on a different surface.” It was a classy innings.”
