Melbourne, Dec 29 (PTI) In the wake of the Ashes series defeat, former batsman Ian Bell feels England should reinstate the traditional selection committee for selecting teams.
After nearly a hundred years, in the process of change, the England and Wales Cricket Board abolished the selection committee. In April, Ed Smith left as the last chief selector after three years in office. Since then, head coach Chris Silverhood selects national teams with the advice of captains Joe Root and Eoin Morgan.

Ian Bell told ‘Sports Day’, “I found the decision to end the selection committee very harsh. Chris Silverhood is also the head coach and selector and in such a situation how can a player honestly tell the coach that I am facing problems in this aspect of the game because he is the one who takes all the decisions.

Ian Bell, who has played 118 Tests and 161 ODIs for England, said the selector should be someone who is not part of the dressing room and does not interact with the players on a daily basis.
He said, “The head of the selection committee should be the one who lives outside the dressing room. He may not be emotionally attached to all the players or interact with them on a daily basis.
