ICC East-Asia Pacific Qualifiers will no longer be held in Japan

The East-Asia Pacific Qualifier to be played in Japan has been cancelled. The ICCconfirmed this on Wednesday (September 1). The tournament was on its way to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2022 and the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2023.

Apart from hosts Japan, the Cook Islands, Fiji, Indonesia, Philippines, Samoa, South Korea and Vanuatu were to take part in the men’s tournament in October. In the women’s tournament, Cook Islands, Fiji, Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, PNG, Samoa and Vanuatu were to take part in the tournament to be held in November.

The Philippines Will Now Move to the Next Stage:

The Philippines will now proceed to the next stage. Because they were the highest ranked team in the men’s rankings. For the women’s tournament, the highest ranked team as on the cut-off date of November 30, 2021 will advance to the global qualifiers.

ICC Events Head Chris Tetley Says the Qualifiers Have Been Canceled Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic:

ICC Events Head Chris Tetley said that “Unfortunately we have had to cancel the EAP qualifiers for the men’s and women’s T20 World Cups as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.” “With the current travel restrictions and quarantine requirements for travel to countries, the only course of action was to cancel. We would like to thank all the participating members for their patience and support in coming to this decision.

“With respect to the qualifying event canceled in November 2020 by the ICC Board. As per the decision, the Philippines will now qualify for the next stage of the men’s pathway. For women, the team that will advance based on the global qualifier rankings will continue until November 2021. . Will be determined eventually.”

ICC Has Also Been Forced to Change the Dates of the US Qualifiers for the Women’s T20 World Cup:

The ICC has also been forced to change the dates of the US qualifiers for the Women’s T20 World Cup. And the tournament will be played in Mexico between October 18-25 and will include Argentina, Brazil, Canada and the USA.
