The ICC has introduced in-game penalties for slow overrate in both men’s and women’s T20Is, which will take effect this month.
According to ICC overrate rules, a fielding side must be in a position to bowl. The first ball of the last over of their innings by a certain amount of time for the end of the innings.

Failing to do so, teams will be given the consent of a lesser fielder outside the 30-yard circle for the remainder of the innings.
The ICC took a cue from the ECB, which implemented a similar rule in its inaugural session of the Hundred last July.
The ICC says it has repeated it after reading reports of its potential to improve the speed of the smallest document. This in-game penalty will be irrespective of the ICC section presented for slow overrate.
As part of the changes described, the ICC has also introduced alternate drinking spacing between innings in bilateral T20 cricket.
Teams can now opt for a two-and-a-half-minute break at the midpoint of each inning. Subject to an agreement between the two teams reconciled at the start of each series.
The men’s only T20I match between West Indies and Ireland at Sabina Park on 16 January will be where these new rules will be applied.
