International Cricket Council (ICC) took big decisions regarding the World Cup and Champions Trophy

In the International Cricket Council’s next eight-year Future Tours Program (FTP), the T20 World Cup will be held every two years while 14 teams will participate in the 50-over World Cup from 2027. The ICC gave this information on Tuesday.

Champions Trophy will start again

The eight-team Champions Trophy will be played in 2025 and 2029. After the year 2017, the ICC considered the Champions Trophy to be the last. But there is an idea to reconsider this and restart this tournament. The last Champions Trophy was won by Pakistan.
“The ICC Board confirmed the schedule from 2024 to 2031 in which the Men’s Cricket World Cup and T20 World Cup will be played and the Champions Trophy will be held again,” the ICC said in a release after the board meeting.

There will be 14 teams in ODI World Cup and 20 teams in T20 World Cup

“The men’s ODI World Cup will have 14 teams in 2027 and 2031, while the T20 World Cup will have 20 teams, while 2024, 2026, 2028, and 2030 will have a 55-match tournament,” This time there will be 16 teams in the T20 World Cup.

The ICC World Test Championship Finals (WTC) will be played in 2025, 2027, 2029, and 2031. The schedule of the ICC women’s tournament has already been decided.

There will be two groups of seven teams each in the men’s ODI World Cup and the top three teams will advance to the Super Six. This will be followed by the semi-finals and the final. The same format was also in the 2003 World Cup. There will be four groups of five in the T20 World Cup. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Eights, followed by the semifinals and the final.
