Australia repeated its old history

Australia repeated the old history 20 years ago and defeated India in the World Cup final for the second time. Earlier, Australia had also won the title in the 2003 World Cup final by defeating India by 125 runs.

Virat Kohli was the most successful batsman of this tournament while Mohammed Shami was the most successful bowler. For Kohli’s strong performance, he was chosen Player of the Tournament.

  • Runner-up India received 20 lakh dollars (about Rs 16 crore).
  • The two teams that lost in the semi-finals – New Zealand and South Africa – each received prize money of $8 lakh (Rs 6.5 crore).
  • The remaining 6 teams that failed to reach the knockouts each received $1 lakh (about Rs 83 lakh).
