Team India: Even though Team India has won the Nagpur Test by an innings and 132 runs, everything is not well as far as team selection is concerned. Team India has taken a 1-0 lead in the Border Gavaskar series. In the first Test, thanks to the strong performance of captain Rohit Sharma, Akshar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja, Team India scored 400 runs in the first innings in response to Australia’s 177 runs. In response, the entire Australian team was all out for 91 runs in the second innings.

But despite the victory in this match, the player on whom questions are being raised is KL Rahul. Former Team India fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad has called his selection based on bias. Now Indian veteran Sunil Gavaskar has also entered this debate. Prasad wrote on the Twitter handle, ‘Rahul was not selected on the basis of performance but on the basis of favoritism. There has been a constant lack of consistency in his performance and this has been going on for almost eight years. He has not converted his potential into performance.

Gavaskar Said this

But Sunil Gavaskar has defended KL Rahul. He said that this Karnataka batsman should be given some more time. Venkatesh Prasad had said that Shubman Gill should have been preferred over Rahul. Gavaskar also agreed on this point that he should get a chance but not in the Delhi Test.

Regarding Rahul, Gavaskar said in an interview, ‘The way he batted in the last 1-2 years is fantastic. I think he should be given one more chance. I think he should be given a chance in the Delhi Test. After that you can consider it because an in-form batsman Shubman Gill is ready to replace him.

‘Challenge to Score Against AUS’

Gavaskar said, ‘He should definitely get a chance. Batting coach Vikram Rathor had said in the press conference that Rahul had scored a century in South Africa. He has potential but he has been out of form recently. Scoring against Australia is a big challenge in itself and getting those runs boosts morale. But he can get stuck in it. However, on the basis of his ability, he should get another chance.
