He was able to score only 13 runs in 2 matches. His success has fueled speculation whether he should have been preferred over Sanju Samson.

Veteran cricketer Doda Ganesh also believes that it was a mistake on the part of the team management to give Iyer a chance in place of Sanju Samson. Doda Ganesh tweeted and criticized the team management for T20 cricket. He wrote in his tweet that preferring Shreyas Iyer instead of Sanju Samson shows that Team India’s think tank has not learned any lesson from past mistakes. He wrote that he is neither taking lessons nor will he change regarding T20I cricket approach.

Captain Hardik Pandya also gave a reaction after the match :-

After the match, Hardik Pandya was also questioned about this. In response he said that “If he was sitting out, there was some reason behind it. I can understand how he must be feeling.”

He also said that if I continue as captain, I think it will not be a problem. It is because my nature has been to take everyone along.
