IND vs SA: Why did Ishan Kishan withdraw from the South Africa Test series?

Ishan Kishan, South Africa Test: Team India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has withdrawn his name from the team for the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa. BCCI has appointed KS Bharat as his replacement who is currently captaining India ‘A’ in South Africa.

BCCI said on Ishan Kishan’s withdrawal from the test series :-

The BCCI said, “Ishan Kishan has requested BCCI to release him from the upcoming Test series against South Africa citing personal reasons. The wicketkeeper has subsequently been dropped from the Test squad. The men’s selection committee has replaced him. KS Bharat has been nominated.”

Also, with Ishan out, KL Rahul will now do wicketkeeping in the test match. This will be the first time that Rahul will wear keeping gloves in Test cricket.

KL Rahul said on December 16 :-

Rahul said on December 16, “I don’t know about all the formats, right now my focus is on this ODI series. Yes, I will play the same role. I will do wicketkeeping and bat in the middle order. After that, I would be happy to play that role in Test matches as well.”
