Rohit Sharma ‘s Test captaincy is currently under no threat following the WTC final loss to Australia but the Mumbai batsman will need to put up a stellar performance in next month’s tour of the West Indies if he is to remove the question mark over his leadership abilities.

Rohit will captain the two-Test series against the West Indies from July 12. But probably after that the BCCI will definitely discuss his captaincy in this format.

IND vs WI: Rohit’s captaincy will be in danger on West Indies tour :-

If those in the know of the matter in the Indian team are to be believed, Rohit will lead the team on the tour if he himself does not decide to step down from the captaincy on the West Indies tour.

A senior BCCI official said, at present, the talk of removing Rohit from the captaincy is baseless. But whether he will continue as captain for the full two-year WTC cycle is a big question as Rohit will be close to 38 in 2025. I believe Shivsundar Das and his colleagues will have to take call after two Tests, looking at their batting form.

Decision may be taken before India’s tour of South Africa :-

According to sources, there are no Tests till the end of December after the West Indies tour. After this the Indian team will travel to South Africa. So the selectors have enough time to deliberate and take a decision. By then the fifth selection committee will also get a new chairman and then a decision can be taken.
