Kolkata: In the first T20 match between West Indies and India (Ind vs Wi), former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar had raised questions about Roston Chase applying tape to his entire hand. West Indies all-rounder Chase had black tape on his left hand while fielding. Players are allowed to tape the finger to avoid injury while fielding, but Gavaskar questioned whether it was permissible to tape the entire palm.

According to Sunil Gavaskar, by doing this, the player gets an additional advantage while fielding

Sunil Gavaskar said during the commentary in the match, ‘What is that? Is he wearing gloves? It under the rule, is it even allowed? Is this a bar? What is this? We often see this in cricket today. A lot of fielders wear it. I can understand placing it only at the base of the fingers but it is on the palm. According to Sunil Gavaskar, by doing this, the player gets an additional advantage while fielding.

Gavaskar believes that nothing like this should be on the palms of the players. Fellow commentator and former Indian cricket team wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta said on this matter, ‘It is for security. As you mentioned finger is ok but then again many times there are different types of padding. Sometimes extra padding is needed to protect the soft part of the hand.
