IND vs ZIM, 1st ODI, KL Rahul: India thrashed Zimbabwe by 10 wickets in the first ODI to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Despite this victory, Indian captain KL Rahul is under question.

Actually, this series considered important for some Indian players for the preparations for the Asia Cup 2022, but during the first ODI, the team left this preparation and landed on the field only with the intention of registering victory.

Batting first in Harare ODI, Zimbabwe had set a target of 190 runs in front of India, this score was achieved by Team India in 30.5 overs without losing a wicket.

kL Rahul lost his first chance out of 3 :-

Taking a look at the Zimbabwe tour squad and the Asia Cup team, there are three players who are present in both the places. These include Deepak Hooda and Avesh Khan along with captain KL Rahul. KL Rahul was running out of the team since IPL 2022.

He returned to competitive cricket during the Zimbabwe tour. He had only three chances to regain his fitness and batting rhythm for the Asia Cup, in which he has missed the first one.

Due to KL Rahul winning the toss and choosing to bowl, the team did not get a chance to practice a lot :-

Against a weak team like Zimbabwe, KL Rahul chose to bowl first after winning the toss. If Team India had batted first, then the Indian players would have got a chance for a lot of practice, along with captain KL Rahul, who was playing as a middle order batsman in this match, could also contribute in the batting. At the same time, Deepak Hooda, the other batsman of the Asia Cup squad, also did not get a chance to play.

Even after Zimbabwe were bundled out for 189 runs, Rahal did not change the decision :-

At the same time, when Zimbabwe’s team bundled out for 189 runs while batting first, Rahul did not change his decision. The team went with Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill and both these players won the match on their own.

After seeing this low score, KL Rahul could have changed his decision and started the innings instead of the middle order so that he could practice, but he did not do so.

Avesh Khan, part of the Asia Cup squad, was not given a chance in the Paying XI :-

Apart from this, KL Rahul did not give Avesh Khan a chance in the playing XI who is part of the squad of Asia Cup 2022. Because of absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel, Avesh’s role will become crucial in the upcoming tournament due to which he should have got a chance in Zimbabwe, but it did not happen either.

In the first ODI against Zimbabwe, the three players included in the squad of the Asia Cup 2022 did not get a chance to show their game. In such a situation, the biggest question that arises is whether such Team India will be able to prepare for this big tournament?
