IND vs ZIM: Saba Karim raised questions on Shikhar Dhawan’s removal from captaincy, said this about KL Rahul

After KL Rahul passed the fitness test, the selectors removed Shikhar Dhawan from the captaincy for the one-day series against Zimbabwe. KL Rahul has been appointed as the captain of the Indian team for the three ODIs to be played at Harare Sports Club on the Zimbabwe tour. However, former selector Saba Karim believes that the decision to remove Shikhar Dhawan from the captaincy is not right. He said that Dhawan should have been retained as captain after his impressive performance in limited overs cricket. Saba Karim further said that Rahul should have been in the team as a player.

KL Rahul should play the series as a member only

Saba Karim told India News Sport, “KL Rahul should play the series only as a member, making him captain or vice-captain is not so important. He is coming after a long break. Shikhar Dhawan is a senior player of the team who has done well in white-ball cricket. You have to give importance to him once he is announced as captain.

Dhawan has captained the Indian team in six ODIs, out of which the team won five matches. Apart from this, Dhawan has also captained in three T20 International cricket matches in which his record is one win and two losses. Dhawan had captained the Indian team for the first time in July last year. He was also the captain of the team in the recent ODI tour of West Indies.

No need to rush as it is related to team atmosphere, you need to build team spirit. A captain starts thinking about his plans for the upcoming matches and then you suddenly make changes. It affects the morale of the cricketer.

Rahul had led the Indian team for the first time in the absence of Rohit Sharma in the South African tour in January this year. Under his leadership, India had to face defeat in all the three ODIs played against South Africa.
