IND W vs ENG W: Opener Smriti Mandhana, the architect of India’s big win against England in the first ODI, said that her team wants to give a wonderful farewell to veteran fast bowler Jhulan Goswami, who retired from international cricket after this three-match series. Will say

Jhulan has played 12 Tests (44 wickets), 202 ODIs (253 wickets) and 68 T20 Internationals (56 wickets) for India in a career spanning 20 years.

Mandhana, who played a key role in India’s seven-wicket win in the first ODI by scoring 91 off 99 balls, said after the match, “I want to say that this series is in the name of Jhulu Di (Jhulan Goswami). His bowling was superb. All our efforts in this series will be for Jhulu Di.

Goswami took one wicket for 20 runs in 10 overs. Due to his economical bowling, India restricted England to 227 for seven. Voted player of the match, Smriti Mandhana admitted that she bats more naturally in ODIs than in T20s.

He said, “ODIs are more natural for me. In T20s, I have to put in extra effort to maintain my strike rate. I am glad that I laid a good foundation for the team.

Smriti Mandhana said she would have been happier if she remained unbeaten. Mandhana was out when India were 30 runs behind the target.

“I was happy that Harman (Harmanpreet Kaur) won the toss. I assessed the pitch in England’s innings and told myself to play less on the back foot, but I couldn’t hold myself for long.” Indian skipper Harmanpreet lauded the team for the collective effort.
