The last time these teams met in a 50-over World Cup was at Old Trafford in 2019 when India posted a mammoth 336/5 on the back of Rohit Sharma’s 113-ball 140.

A smart bowling performance then restricted Pakistan to only 212/6 in a rain-affected match which India won by 89 runs (DLS method).

Memorable 2011 Games

Perhaps even more memorable is the 2011 game, another home World Cup for India, which resulted in a thrilling semi-final encounter in Mohali. Sachin Tendulkar top-scored with 85 for the hosts and their bowlers held together to dismiss Pakistan and win by 29 runs.

With the T20 World Cup now in disarray, Pakistan would look to emulate the same in the upcoming 50-over format on October 15.

The Narendra Modi Stadium, which boasts a seating capacity of 132,000, is expected to be sold out. The opening match of the World Cup will also be held at the same venue on October 5 and the final on November 19.
