T20 World Cup 2024: Virat Kohli, the leading run-scorer in the ODI World Cup 2023, is reportedly no longer the first choice in India’s T20 XI. With the T20 World Cup set to be played in June 2024, the discussion has quickly shifted from ODIs to T20Is.
Top BCCI officials prepared the roadmap :-
In a five-hour long meeting with the selection committee led by captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid and Ajit Agarkar in New Delhi, top BCCI officials prepared a roadmap for the upcoming big event in the West Indies and the USA.
Also, let us tell you that before deciding the team for the T20 World Cup, India has only six T20 matches, three in South Africa and three against Afghanistan at home.
Virat Kohli ‘s place in T20 World Cup team is not guaranteed :-
Not only this, Kohli, Rohit and Jasprit Bumrah have requested for a break from the white-ball phase of the South Africa tour. This leaves only three T20 matches against Afghanistan for the selectors to test their full-strength squad. If a report in Dainik Jagran is to be believed, while Rohit and Bumrah are automatic choices in the XI, Kohli is not guaranteed a place in the T20 World Cup team.
A BCCI official present in the meeting told Jagran that the selectors and the board want a player who can play aggressive cricket from the beginning.

Ishan Kishan is in the race to get number 3 position :-
Ishan Kishan currently seems to be the frontrunner to get the number 3 position. The left-handed batsman played some good innings while batting at the No. 3 position in the home series against Australia.
If Kishan is being seen at number 3, then players like Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja fill the remaining spots in the batting order.
Also, either Yashasvi Jaiswal or Shubman Gill is likely to open with Rohit while the other one will be kept in the team as a backup opener.
The selectors and other senior members of the board will soon take a decision on Virat Kohli :-
However, the official said that the selectors and other senior members of the board will soon discuss with Kohli about his plans for the T20Is. If Kohli himself informs BCCI that he has no interest in playing in the shortest format then there will be no dilemma.
