IPL 2021: Rohit Sharma became the first Indian batsman to hit 400 sixes in T20 cricket

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma achieved a major milestone on Tuesday. As he became the first Indian batsman to hit 400 sixes in T20 cricket.

Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma on Tuesday achieved another feat in his name in which he became the first Indian batsman to hit 400 sixes in T20 cricket. The 34-year-old achieved the milestone in Match 51 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Sharjah on Tuesday.

Apart from Rohit, no Indian batsman has managed to hit more than 350 sixes in the shortest format. CSK batsman Suresh Raina (325) is the second Indian on the list of most sixes followed by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli (320) and Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni (304). Rohit scored 133 runs for the national team and 227 runs in the IPL out of 400 sixes. He hit 16 sixes in Champions League T20 and 24 sixes in other T20s.

In the list of most sixes in T20, experienced West Indies batsman Chris Gayle tops the list with 1042 sixes.

On Tuesday, Rohit scored 22 runs off 13 balls as MI comfortably chased down the target of 91 runs set by RR with eight wickets remaining. MI inflicted a humiliating defeat to RR by scoring the winning run in the ninth over of their innings.

The win boosted MI’s playoff qualification hopes and dealt a major blow to RR.

“We had to come here and do what we had to do, which was to get the two points. It was a chance to improve our run rate as well. We got off to a flier. And we said there is a chance for us to up the run rate,” said Rohit during the post-match presentation after MI beat RR by eight wickets.
