Williamson was ruled out of the ongoing ODI series 2021 in Bangladesh.
Kane was not fit enough at the start of the first leg of IPL 2021 in India. Trevor Bayliss, who coached Sunrisers, said Williamson “needs a little extra time to regain his match fitness”.

Williamson, however, returned to action for Sunrisers’ fourth game last season against Punjab Kings at Chepauk. The team had to face five defeats in six matches. He then replaced David Warner as the captain in the middle of the season. Sunrisers eventually finished at the bottom with only three wins in 14 matches last year.

Williamson was retained by Sunrisers for 14 crores before IPL 2022. He suffered an elbow injury in the lead-up to the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. He was troubled by this injury for a long time.

Williamson said that he had originally planned to return for the Test series at home against South Africa. Which is going to start on 17th February. But the slow recovery has delayed his return.
