Glenn Maxwell was retained by the franchise for 11 crores. But due to his marriage, Maxwell will not be able to be a part of the opening match of the IPL. In such a situation, the franchise is considering making former South African captain Faf du Plessis as the captain.

• After Virat Kohli in RCB, Faf is the only player to have the experience of captaincy in international cricket.
• The in-form opener Faf du Plessis is the first choice for the captaincy of the franchise.
• After retiring from international cricket, he will be present full-time for IPL 2022.
• The other option was Glenn Maxwell who was considered earlier but will be absent in the opening matches of the IPL as he is married.
