IPL 2022: Yuvraj Singh blames T20 cricket for Test cricket’s downfall

Limited overs cricket legend Yuvraj Singh said that while people want to watch T20 cricket, players are also eager to play the shortest format due to the lucrative salaries of the T20 league.

T20 cricket for Test cricket’s downfall

IPL 2022: T20 cricket has emerged as the most popular format of cricket in the last few years and due to this we get to see many T20 leagues like IPL around the world. At the same time, the interest of the audience has definitely decreased in Test cricket. Although the ICC has tried to revive the five-day format to some extent through the Test Championship, you cannot deny the fact that T20 is not the most popular format. Regarding this, former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has shared his thoughts behind the downfall of Test cricket.

“Test cricket is dying. People want to watch T20 cricket, players want to play T20 match,” Yuvraj said on Sports 18’s Home of Heroes.

He said, “Someone will get five lakh rupees just by playing five-day match and will play T20 cricket today and get 50 lakh? Players who have not yet made it to international cricket are getting Rs 7-10 crore.

Yuvraj, the Man of the Series winner of the 2011 World Cup won by India, said that “fans are now losing interest in the 50-over format as well due to its duration as compared to the T20 game. “You watch a T20 match and then watch a 50-over game – it looks like a Test match now. After 20 overs, they are like, ’30 overs to bat!’, said Yuvraj. “So, definitely T20 is taking everything.”
