England’s most successful fast bowler in Test cricket, James Anderson, achieved an incredible feat by taking the field for the team in the second Test of the series against South Africa on Thursday. Anderson, who holds the record for most wickets in Test cricket for his team, participated in his 100th Test in England. Thus he became the first cricketer in a single country to reach this feat in Test cricket.

The great batsman Sachin Tendulkar had set the record for playing most Tests in a country (India). He played a total of 94 test matches in India. This record has already been broken by James Anderson and he is the first and only player in the world to play 100 Tests in a country. Sachin is now second on the list, while Ricky Ponting (92 Tests in Australia) and James Anderson’s teammate Stuart Broad (91 Tests in England) are third and fourth respectively.

James Anderson has played 174 Test matches so far

Now it remains to be seen whether James Anderson, who turned 40 last month, will be able to reach 200 Test matches, because only Sachin has been able to do this work. James Anderson has played 174 Test matches so far. He has so far taken 658 wickets in this longer format of cricket and is currently behind Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan (800) and Australia’s Shane Warne (708) and is third in the list of highest wicket-takers.

Talking about the second Test, South Africa won the toss and decided to bat at Old Trafford, Manchester. After a crushing defeat by an innings and 12 runs in the first match at Lord’s, hosts England are 0-1 down in the series. It was the first defeat for England since the captain-coach duo of Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum took over. England had earlier defeated New Zealand and India.
