BENGALURU: The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) on Saturday launched the Maharaja’s Trophy T20 in the memory of former Mysore Maharaja Srikanta Dutta Narasimharaja Wadiyar. Srikant Dutta Narasimharaja Wadiyar was also the President of KSCA. This T20 tournament will organized from August 7 to August 26.

The trophy and logo of the tournament unveiled at an event decorated with stars. During this, President of Karnataka State Cricket Association Roger Binny, Secretary Santosh Menon, Treasurer Vinay Mrityunjay, Gundappa Vishwanath and Syed Kirmani were present. In the year 2005, Karnataka Karnataka State Cricket Association organized the country’s first T20 tournament in the name of Bradman Cup.
Karnataka has been taking new initiatives
Announcing the start of the new T20 tournament, KSCA President Roger Binny said, “The year 2005 had laid the groundwork for the establishment of the new format in the country and organized India’s first T20 tournament. After this the Karnataka Premier League started in the year 2009. Which has had eight seasons and has given us many new cricket stars. With an aim to provide the right platform to our players and prepare them for the next level of cricket, we decided to introduce the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20.

Six teams will seen playing in the tournament
KSCA secretary Santosh Menon told that teams from Bangalore, Mysore, Hubli, Shivamogga, Raichur and Mangalore will play in the tournament. The tournament will begin on August 7 in Mysore. The first round matches will at the Srikant Dutta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Ground in Mysore. A total of 18 matches will organized in Mysore. After which the remaining 16 matches will be played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Players under the age of 35 will be able to participate
All top players below the age of 35 will be able to participate in this tournament. Teams will formed through players draft. And KSCA will choose the captain and vice-captain of the team. Apart from this, KSCA will also provide support staff to all the 6 teams.

State’s best players will participate
Karnataka’s best players Devdutt Padikkal, Shreyas Gopal, Cariappa Gautam, Manish Pandey, Jagdish Suchit, Karun Nair, Mayank Agarwal, Abhinav Manohar, KC Cariappa, Praveen Dubey, Abhimanyu Mithun are all likely to participate in this new T20 tournament.
