Kirti Azad, Furious over the Cooling off Period on BCCI, said – Corruption will still exist

New Delhi: Kirti Azad, the most outspoken critic of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and former Delhi cricketer, has reacted to the Supreme Court’s order to change the constitution of BCCI, saying it will lead to the same situation as it was before 2016. The 63-year-old Delhi cricketer-turned-politician said the committee constituted by the then Chief Justice TS Thakur had made some recommendations to address the shortcomings of the BCCI, but unfortunately the important points were dropped in the new judgement.

BCCI allowed constitutional amendment

The Supreme Court, in its landmark decision, allowed the BCCI to amend its constitution, especially by relaxing the cooling-off period. The decision will allow the current office-bearers, including BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah, to continue in their posts till 2025. Asked about the Supreme Court’s decision, Azad, a member of the 1983 World Cup winning team, said, “It will take the BCCI back to where it used to be before 2016. And we will see those corruptions happening again and things as they are.” Will keep going.”

“The tenure was an important part of it”

“Corruption will still be there as it was before 2016. There is no transparency and all we know is that people from big political and influential families will take over,” Azad told IANS. Azad said, “Crores of rupees were spent on court cases. The state associations produced the most expensive lawyers. BCCI did the same. We fought too. But it is unfortunate that such things happen. I asked Justice RM. Lodha’s press statement in an interview read in which he said tenure was an important part of it.”

Asked why BCCI was hesitant about the cooling-off period, he said, “Because BCCI doesn’t need any experience but unfortunately things have changed and everyone knows why it has happened.” Azad said that he was the first person to raise his voice against corruption in DDCA. And wanted to expose those responsible for it.

“I was suspended for raising my voice”

Azad said, “I was suspended for raising Arun Jaitley’s corruption in DDCA. I was a whistle blower and I was also suspended from Bharatiya Janata Party. It was not only me who was raising my voice against corruption. It was also stated in the report of Serious Fraud and Investigation Office. And also in the report of former Supreme Court Justice Vikramjit Singh. Justice Vikramjit was the administrator in DDCA.”
