Lasith Malinga announces retirement from T20 series

Lasith Malinga announces retirement from T20 series Lasith is retiring from T20 cricket after 295 matches in which he took 390 wickets. Malinga had already retired from Tests in 2011 and ODIs in 2019.

The Sri Lankan pacer had also announced his retirement from franchise cricket in January this year after being released by Mumbai Indians. Malinga finished with amazing figures – a strike rate of 16.60, an economy of 7.07 and an average of 19.68. 100 T20Is before he finished with 107 scalps

Lasith was the first bowler to get the wicket. He is the fourth highest wicket-taker in the team behind Dwayne Bravo, Imran Tahir and Sunil Narine.

Although he did not take up hard-ball cricket until after the means of his teen years, Malinga was discovered by Sri Lankan fast bowling coaches Anusha Samarnayake and Champaka Ramanayaka, who brought him home and coached him in his early years.

He made his international debut in 2004 and was soon included in all Sri Lankan teams. Repeated knee and ankle injuries threatened to end his career, and in 2010, he decided to retire from Tests to focus on limited-overs cricket.

Malinga last played an international match in March 2020. He has retired at the age of 38.
