The 38-year-old Malinga, who represented five-time champions Mumbai Indians in the IPL, has taken 170 wickets in 122 matches in this T20 league. Like last year, former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara will take over as the head coach of the Royals. He will continue as the Director of Cricket for the Royals for the rest of the season. Upton of South Africa has returned to the Royals team. He was earlier the coach of the team from 2013 to 2015 and then in 2019 he joined the team. Between 2013 and 2015, the team consistently reached the top-four. He will be with the team for the first four weeks and after that he will help the team online.
