Mayank Agarwal: A Sixth Test half-century

India opener Mayank Agarwal scored his sixth Test fifty on the opening day of the Boxing Day Test against South Africa in Centurion on Sunday.

This is Agarwal’s third consecutive half-century in Tests. Having scored 150 and 62 against New Zealand in the Mumbai Test earlier in the month.

KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal became only the 5th Indian pair to stitch a 50-plus opening stand in Tests in South Africa. The two Indian openers added 82 in the first session of the Boxing Day Test in Centurion.

Rahul and Mayank Agarwal also joined an elite list by becoming only the 2nd overseas. Pair after Chris Gayle and Darren Ganga in 2007-08 to put on a 50-plus opening stand in a Test in South Africa. The county’s re-admission to the sport.
