“I can’t express my feelings in words because it’s unbelievable. To be honest, I couldn’t sleep last night thinking what would happen today. We need this test match to keep the legacy of Test cricket (alive in our country) alive. Needed to win,” Mominul told reporters after the match.

“I think it’s a sign that we are improving as a Test nation. After the Pakistan series, everyone was anxious to do well in Tests and it was reflected in all three departments. Everyone played each other. and the coaching staff was extremely helpful.

Mushfiq bhai was the most experienced and the most involved and used to talk to me a lot. He is a very emotional person and he supported me a lot because I am a young captain. We get that determination when we play as a team and that was important.”

The Bowlers Criticized :-

The Bangladesh captain criticized the bowlers for bowling with discipline and intent during the Test. The batting department also put on a decent show by crushing the New Zealand bowlers and setting Bangladesh to take a 130-run lead.

“For the last two years, we haven’t been able to do well in Tests. It is the result of the performance of the team. The bowlers took advantage of the moisture and did very well in the first innings and they did well in the second innings as well. The batsman also performed very well.

He said, ‘I told the bowlers that we are expected to bowl like we did on the fourth day and we will not go for wickets. You can say if we don’t go for the wicket then how will we get him out?

The plan was that we could not leak runs while going for the wicket. We just wanted to force them and if the result comes, it is okay.”

One of the fast bowlers was Abadot Hossain. The pacer guided the attack with resultant figures of 6 for 46, breaking New Zealand’s batting line-up in the second innings.

A Worked Hard On My Bowling :-

Mominul observed that the pacer had worked hard on his bowling and was not surprised by the performance. “Ebadot has been working very hard for the last two-three years. He was an Air Force volleyball player.

Our coaching staff worked with him so that he could bowl in the right areas. We were expecting something like this from him. So I’m not surprised. Our bowling coach worked hard with him for the last two to three years and it is the result of his hard work.

Haque also praised the opening pair of Shadman and Mahmudul Hasan Joy. Hasan Joy in particular provided Bangladesh a platform in the first innings by scoring a half-century ahead of spells from Tim Southee and Trent Boult. After this Mominul and Liton Das took home the achievement with a partnership of 158 runs.

“I can’t say where I would rate my innings, but two new New Zealand bowlers are extremely dangerous. The way Joey played, he showed he would be tomorrow’s superstar while Shadman helped watch the ball shine.”
