Naveen ul Haq takes a short break from ODIs

Naveen-ul-Haq, the Afghanistan paceman, has opted to take a short break from ODI cricket. In order to prepare for the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year. However, he will be available to play for Afghanistan in T20 Internationals.

22-year-old(Naveen) has told the Afghanistan Cricket Board that he wants to be ‘mentally and physically ready for the world event. Incidentally, Afghanistan is scheduled to play a two-match T20I rubber versus Bangladesh in February-March this year. Afghanistan is also set to play ODIs versus India in March 2022.

The pace bowler has been a member of the Afghanistan limited-overs setup. Since he made his ODI debut against Bangladesh in September 2016. He made his T20I debut for the country versus Bangladesh in 2019. And has gone on to pick up 18 wickets at an average of 18.33. He recorded his best T20I figures of 3 for 21 versus Ireland in March 2020 in Greater Noida. The pace bowler was also the leading wicket-taker in the T20 Blast in 2021 where he ended up with 26 wickets at an average of just over 17.
