Veteran batsman Ross Taylor will retire from international cricket at the end of New Zealand’s domestic session, bringing to light the journey that began in March 2006 against the West Indies in an ODI at Napier.

Ending speculations of his future playing, the 37-year-old on Thursday (December 30) backed that the upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh will be his last among New Zealand whites.

He will not play the extra K Tests against South Africa and will be out later in the summer with six ODIs against Australia and the Netherlands.

Ross Taylor’s last Test will be at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch and will take him to 112, joining Daniel Vettori for the most Tests played by a New Zealand cricketer.

Taylor, who became the first international player to appear in 100 games in each of the three formats, finished with a plethora of New Zealand records. His total runs (18,074), appearances (445), and centuries (40) across all records are the most for any New Zealand cricketer.

He added silverware to his stellar CV by scoring a winning run in the first-ever World Test Championship final against India in Southampton earlier this year.

He was accompanied by captain Kane Williamson at the other end during one of the high points of New Zealand cricket, who paid tribute to Taylor.
