Jason Roy has been ruled out of the rest of England’s T20 World Cup campaign with a torn left calf. He has been replaced in the team by James Vince. Joe was one of the two remaining travel reserves along with Liam Dawson. and was approved by the ICC’s Event Technical Committee.

Jason Roy suffered an injury during England’s defeat in their final Super 12 game against South Africa, grabbing a muscle while fielding first, scoring a run in the fifth over of his chase before going limp. He retired hurt after scoring a total of 20 off 15 balls and was out on the field with the support of Tom Curran, a physio and one of England’s substitute fielders.
Scans on Sunday confirmed the tear and it became clear that he would not be able to recover in time to take part in the knockout stages.
“I’m sad to be out of the World Cup,” says Jason Roy. “It’s a bitter pill to swallow. I’ll stay on to support the boys and hopefully we can go all the way and lift the trophy. It’s been an incredible journey so far. And we have to express ourselves.” Do and continue to focus on us.

“The rehab has started and even though I tore my calf. I am going to give myself the best chance I can to get myself ready for the T20 tour of the Caribbean early next year.”
England could replace Jason Roy with Vince in a similar swap. But Sam Billings – an unused squad member – is more likely to get into his middle order. Who is promoting Jonny Bairstow or David Malan to open. They will also look to bring in a seam-bowling all-rounder as a replacement for Jason Roy soon. Either David Willey or Tom Curran to bat at No 7 or 8.
With Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, Jofra Archer and Tymal Mills already lacking four first-choice squad members due to injury or unavailability, it would be hard to feel the loss of Roy. England captain Eoin Morgan said after the match against South Africa that Jason Roy was “incredibly important” to the team.

“He’s the kind of person who embodies everything about the changing room and the way we play,” Morgan said. “You see how commanding he is at the top of the order. He’s as close as we anticipate to how the changing room should play out. We’re disappointed for Jess, but also half-hopefully he’s okay.” The stages of a tournament for someone to miss the latter – especially when there are too many people in two games. It spoils the mood [in the dressing room].

Archer, Stokes, Sam Curran, Tymal … you look at the time you’ve really explored and tried to build a team And I’m sitting here thankful that we’ve done that because we need those guys in the next game and probably in the final.
Jason Roy was the Player of the Match in England’s last Men’s T20 World Cup semi-final. He scored a total of 78 runs in 44 balls against New Zealand in 2016 to win by seven wickets. And returned from injury in the 50-over World Cup. The knockout in 2019 was a major factor in his qualification for the stages.
