ICC and Sri Lanka Cricket: International Cricket Council (ICC) is all set to take a decision on the ongoing issues within Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) today i.e. on 21st November. After suspending the Sri Lanka board due to government interference, the ICC must now address the matter related to the Under-19 World Cup to be played in Sri Lanka in January 2024. Let us tell you that this meeting of the ICC Board is being held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

For this reason ICC suspended Sri Lanka Cricket :-

Meanwhile, it has also come to light that ICC had taken the action of suspending SLC only on the request of SLC. In a series of letters, elected SLC chief Shammi Silva requested the ICC to take action against the institution.

In a letter dated November 9, Silva said, “We request urgent intervention from the ICC to protect the interests of cricket in Sri Lanka. Your prompt attention and action on this matter will ensure the protection of the democratic process within the SLC.” is important.” Subsequently, broad principles were upheld by the ICC to preserve the principles of cricket administration and protect the reputation of the game in Sri Lanka.”

SLC chief Shammi Silva had demanded action from ICC :-

Silva demanded action from the ICC, saying that the country’s Parliament is engaged in a debate which focuses on the autonomy of SLC and it has been organized by Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe. Silva also claimed threats to the homes and families of SLC elected members, saying the minister was attempting to take SLC money for purposes unrelated to cricket.

The letter was addressed to the ICC President, copies of which were also sent to other members of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), including Secretary Jay Shah. After this letter, ICC decided to suspend SLC on 10 November.

On suspending SLC, ICC said :-

On suspending the SLC, the ICC said, “The ICC Board met today and decided that Sri Lanka Cricket is in serious breach of its obligations as a member, particularly in its failure to manage its affairs autonomously.” And there is a need to ensure that there is no government interference in this.” The ICC Board will take a decision on the terms of the suspension in due course.”

Let us also tell you that ICC did not take similar action in the cases of government interference with Cricket South Africa, Pakistan Cricket Board and even Afghanistan Cricket Board. However, an ICC official said that the ICC can take action only if there is a complaint from a member.
