Speaking on receiving the award, Orla Prendergast said :-

“I’m absolutely delighted to be named as Irish Times/Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Month. It’s a great honour to win this award with the range of incredible female athletes that have won it in months and years previous.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the recently completed T20 World Cup in South Africa, and while it is pleasing to receive this honour on a personal level, cricket is a team game, and any individual success speaks volumes to the team environment. I am extremely grateful to both my teammates and our management staff for the support I have received in recent years.

“While we came away from the World Cup winless, there are a huge amount of positives we can take from our performances. We know we have more in the tank, with the skill and ability to take on the best teams in the world. We’re looking forward to the upcoming home summer and taking on some of the best sides in the world yet again.”
