Pakistan’s Azhar Ali To Rejoin Worcestershire For 2023 Season

Azhar Ali will rejoin Worcestershire as an overseas player for the 2023 season, after starring in eight County Championships so far during the 2022 season with 607 runs at 46.69.

Made his Top score of 225 Against Leicestershire:-

Azhar, 37, made his top score of 225 against Leicestershire in May, but also signed on for the season with 130 in his final appearance against Northamptonshire.

In a press release, however, the club praised his influence on other players within the squad, and Worcestershire’s Steering Group chairman Paul Prison said they were pleased to have secured his return for 2023.

“Azhar has loved being here and wants to come back and work for us again next season and we are glad that he has signed for one more year,” he added.

He is a Great cricketer:-

“Azhar has done really well for us. We think he’s a fantastic cricketer, he fits into our dressing room, and the players love him.

“Getting someone who isn’t available for the whole season, again with your overseas player is another bonus because I think that’s going to be harder and harder to do.

“He is also interested in other first-class counties, but has indicated that he really enjoys living in Worcestershire and that his family is settled here.”

Helped to develop Players:-

Among the players that Azhar has helped develop is 21-year-old batsman Jack Haynes. With whom he has forged some important partnerships this summer, including the third wicket of 281 against Leicestershire.

“Jack is a talented cricketer, but when he has batted with Azhar at the crease. He is looking more confident, calmer, and more patient,” Prison said.

“I think Azhar has been a huge influence on and off the field.”

Azhar said: “It has been such an enjoyable experience for me to be part of the Worcestershire setup. And I am happy to be back for another year.

Increased his bowling stock by signing:-

Meanwhile, Northamptonshire have boosted their bowling stock by signing South African seamer, Lizard Williams, for the rest of the season.

Williams, 27, made his Test debut earlier this year and has 209 first-class wickets to his name at 27.08. He will be available for the county’s last four championship appearances, including Monday’s tour of Hampshire.
