A PCB media release said that Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has left for London to complete his rehabilitation.

The 4-6 weeks of Rest advised by the Medical Team:-

Shaheen was ruled out of the ongoing Asia Cup after being advised 4-6 weeks of rest by the medical team following a right knee ligament injury.

He sustained the injury while fielding during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle in July.

The 22-year-old was in the UAE along with the rest of Pakistan’s squad to continue his rehabilitation after Mohammad Hasnain was announced as his replacement.

However, further evaluation of his condition has prompted the PCB Medical Advisory Panel to send him to London so that he can work on a return before the start of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in less than two months.

He is expected to be fully fit before the event:-

“Shaheen Shah Afridi needs uninterrupted, dedicated knee specialist care and London offers some of the best sports medicine and rehabilitation facilities in the world.

In the best interest of the player, we have decided to send him there,” said PCB’s chief medical officer, Dr. Najibullah Soumro.

The release further said: In London, Shaheen will be under the supervision of the PCB Medical Advisory Panel, which also includes London-based Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed and Dr. Zafar Iqbal.

Has been the head of medical services at the football club:-

Since 2016, Dr. Imtiaz has been the Head of Medical Services at Queens Park Rangers Football Club, while Dr. Zafar has been Head of Sports Medicine at Crystal Palace Football Club since 2015 (having previously working with Tottenham Hotspur FC, Liverpool FC, and Kent County Cricket Club).

Pakistan began their Asia Cup 2022 campaign on Sunday, 28 August, where they lost to India by five wickets. Their next match will be playing against Hong Kong in Sharjah on 2 September.
