Australia vice-captain Pat Cummins feels he is as fresh as he has ever felt coming into a Test series. But says he would be surprised if the side persists with the same four-man attack through all five Ashes Tests. Something they did against India last summer.

Cummins returned to Australia and into hotel quarantine on the Gold Coast on Tuesday with the majority of the triumphant World Cup-winning squad to begin their Ashes preparation.

George Bailey on Wednesday confirmed Australia will have a team mentality after announcing a 15-man Ashes squad

Chairman of selectors George Bailey on Wednesday confirmed Australia will have a team mentality after announcing a 15-man Ashes squad for the first two Tests as well as Australia A team. Bailey was also impressed with Richardson’s form in the Ashes series after his player-of-the-match performance for Western Australia against Queensland at the Gabba last week, where he took eight wickets, including 5 for 23, in 22.2 overs in the second innings.

He hasn’t played a first-class match since February. Cummins has featured in only 7 T20Is since April. He has been ruled out of limited-overs tours of the Caribbean and Bangladesh during Australia’s winter. He did not take part in the second half of the IPL before the World Cup to stay home for the birth of his son.

My body feels just as good in a few years

“My body feels just as good in a few years. There are no niggles,” Cummins said. “First of all, I think, the advantage of shorter spells is that we all feel really refreshed. I always think it’s better to go short than to get into a big Test series.

“For now it’s just trying to work back from that day. I think, to get some good bowls. We have quite a few center wickets. So we’ll have three, four, five center wickets where we try. Do and spend the relatively big days. You know, bowl some spells on those days. And we’ll be ready to go. And we did the same preparation last year and everyone felt really good in that Adelaide first Test did. “

Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc played all four Tests against India last year.

Rested it is normally more than just a purely workload-

Cummins said, “When someone I think has rested it is normally more than just a purely workload.” “There are always small injuries and minor injuries that we are dealing with, basically after every single Test match.

“The great thing is that we have a huge stable of fast bowlers. So yeah, I don’t think it will be a big issue if someone is not able to get up for the Test or someone has just a little redlining. Somebody else can slot.

I think the two can slot in really well,” Cummins said. “It might be like that in some respects. I would say maybe Jhe, especially last week, I saw only a little bit but obviously, he bowled beautifully here at the Gabba.

“I’m getting really excited by the freckles,” Bailey said. “With a physical appearance, I think he looks as strong as I’ve ever seen him.

“He’s had a few niggles, and he’s worked his way back out of those, so he’s starting to build some flexibility in his body, still a youthful body.

“I think he has done quite well in the last three Shield games, but one particular mantra I think was the morning of the day [three], a really impressive spell, I think he took the wicket at the end. Acquired Marnus [Labuschagne] and Joe Burns, who both commented that it was impressive quality.”
