Melbourne, Dec 26 (AP) Australia captain and pacer Pat Cummins shook England’s top order with three wickets on the first day of the third Ashes Test cricket match here on Sunday. England held on till lunch after being invited to bat first. Scored 61 runs for three wickets. The game started half an hour late due to rain. Root’s total number of runs in the year 2021 increased to 1663. And he has become the captain with the highest run-scorer in a calendar year. Root surpassed South Africa’s Graeme Smith (1656 runs in 2008) on Sunday.
