PCB appoints Shan Masood as Test captain, Shaheen Afridi becomes T20Is captain

PCB appoints Test and T20Is captain: Pakistan has appointed Shaheen Shah Afrid as its new T20I captain and Shan Masood as its Test captain soon after Babar Azam stepped down from the captaincy in all three formats. With no ODI matches scheduled in the near future, the PCB has not announced the ODI captain yet.

Immediately after the resignation, the PCB issued a statement saying:-

Soon after the resignation, the PCB issued a statement saying that Babar was given the option to remain as Test captain, while the decision to remove him as white-ball captain was his own. “After consultation with his family, Babar Azam has decided to step down and the PCB stands by his decision. The PCB respects his decision and will continue to support him as a player.”

Zaka Ashraf said, “Babar Azam is truly a world-class player and we want him to continue to grow as a player.” “He is one of the best batsmen Pakistan has ever produced. He is our asset and we will continue to support him.”

Shaheen Afridi will be given charge after the test match against Australia :-

The 23-year-old Afridi was set to replace Babar Azam in the shortest format, and will be handed the first charge soon after the three-Test series against Australia ends. Pakistan will travel to New Zealand to play five T20 matches after the Test in Australia. This is the first series before next year’s T20 World Cup, which will be held in West Indies and USA in June 2024.

Great performance of Lahore Qalandars under Afridi’s captaincy :-

Afridi was appointed captain of his Pakistan Super League franchise – Lahore Qalandars – and enjoyed immediate success. Under his leadership the Qalandars have won both PSL trophies, becoming the first team to successfully defend the trophy. The PCB said that an ODI captain would be appointed “in due course”.
