The (WPL) auction on Monday expectedly showed that three of its five franchises of IPL teams had a better idea of how to go about it. Four of the first six players went to two of those franchises – Royal Challengers Bangalore. And Mumbai Indians – and it was only later. The time 14 players were sold, that other teams spent INR 25.70 crores (US) to build a core. $3.13 million approx.) in total. Except for one team.
Jindal says people didn’t save much money for some other Indians –
Delhi Capitals, which also has teams in the ILT20 and SA20. This team came out empty-handed despite bidding for nine of the 14 players who went unsold. But despite coming late to the party, the Capitals took home some big names like Meg Lanning, Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma and Marijan Kapp.
They bought as many players as they were allowed (18), and when they went home they still had INR 35 lakh (US$42,700 approx) in their purse.
His co-owner Parth Jindal said that they came up with a clear plan of a cap for each player. And withdrew when the bids exceeded them.
“A lot of money was spent on the marquee list by other teams,” Jindal told ESPNcricinfo. “People spend around 30% of their purse on a player. Smriti Mandhana takes Rs 3.4 crore out of 12 [crores], which is 27-28% of her purse. This is 30 crores spent on a player in the men’s IPL. You can’t do that according to me, but they did.”

Parth Jindal said –
“People spent a lot of money on marquee players and that didn’t leave much money for some of the other Indians. So when some of the sets were over. We were in a very good spot because we had Jemimah, Shafali, Lanning, and we were able to play for money. We were ready to pick whoever we wanted to pick. We’re very happy, fingers crossed, we’ve put together a good team.”
