A crucial spell from Peter Hetzoglu and another half-century from Kurtis Patterson helped Perth Scorchers to top the BBL table after a severely weakened Melbourne Stars separation at Junction Oval.
Due to a Covid-19 outbreak within the team, the Stars were without 10 first-choice players and their entire coaching staff and had to call in four players from outside the team to form an XI.

The Perth Scorchers also lost two players and an assistant coach to the Covid-19 outbreak, but Kurtis Patterson’s 54 and Colin Munro’s 40 off 40 lined up a total of 8 for 180 before Hatzoglu, Tymal Mills. And AJ Ty dismissed the Stars with seven wickets between them 130.
Apart from a fine start of 78 runs between Joe Clarke and debutant Tom Rogers, the Stars suffered a massive loss of 10 for 52 wickets. Clarke became only the second-star player to score three consecutive BBL half-centuries with 52 off 32, while Rogers looked right at home on a level kicked out of Melbourne grade cricket a few days earlier.
It was a matter of Marsh and Inglis not being there in the top order and the first 10 overs were not a concern for the Scorchers. Kurtis Patterson and Munro continued their fine form. Patterson was anything but short, throwing extra momentum from both Brody Couch and Haris Rauf for six at square leg.
Munro continued to hit six sixes on the ground to sabotage Maxwell’s figures and put the Scorchers on his way. The pair scored 68 runs in 6.2 overs and Munro scored 40 off 18 to make 1 run on 95 for 8.5.
Full toss straight down the throat of Deep Square. It ended with Perth losing 3 for 21 in 19 balls. Kurtis Patterson third also deep squared out off Haris Rauf.
There is no DRS in the BBL due to difficulties in securing equipment to Australia due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Experienced umpire Bruce Oxenford used his personal DRS to reverse a decision in the 14th over.

Krone bounced off Ashton Turner who attempted to hook and the ball hit the helmet on the way to keeper Clarke. The Stars appeared to be caught behind, and Oxenford immediately bowled a straight out to quell his decision.
It was a momentous occasion of the game as Turner scored 10 off 9 and 27 of 19. He was eventually dismissed in another interesting incident. He was run out in addition to a straight drive thump on the couch by Ashton Agar and touched Quicken before hitting the stumps.
Oxenford inattentively went on the couch to check that he had touched Turner before giving him out. Without ever testing from the TV umpire.
Laurie Evans was also dismissed lbw by Oxenford earlier when he could hit it. The Scorchers had a decent power surge, taking 26 thanks to Turner and Agar’s mix of power and touch. Agar scored 19 runs off 16, including a strong strike from Rauf.
Rogers charged in his first over by pulling Jason Behrendorff through square leg and then drilling a length ball at mid-off. Apart from this, Clarke hit six fours in the next 11 balls. He sat too deep in the crease and punished anything adorably long.
Clarke was the main tyrant to complete his fifty from 29. Balls into the air with an incredible blow from the fire. But Rogers did not have to go ahead with the slogan, dismissing Hatzoglu.
