Electing to bat first, Zalmi could not have expected a better start as wicketkeeper-batsman Haris did no harm to his growing reputation by setting up the GSL with a series of brilliant strokes in only his third appearance in his PSL career.

Right-handed batsman Mohammad Haris took just 18 balls to complete his maiden PSL 2022 half-century. It was the joint third fastest half century in the history of the tournament. Hazratullah Zazai (13) and Haris put on 73 runs for the first wicket inside the power play. Haris scored 70 runs in 32 balls (7 fours, five sixes) before the dismissal of Waqas Maqsood.
After Haris’ loss, Zalmi’s rising pick Yasir Khan and veteran Shoaib Malik put further pressure on the combined bowlers with contributions of 35 and 38 runs in 24. Both hit two sixes each in 23 balls respectively. Islamabad United, however, managed to bring respectability to their bowling effort as Zalmi was held back in the death overs.
