Pubudu Dassanayake has been reappointed as the head coach of the Nepal men’s national team. The Nepal Cricket Association announced at the end of its board meeting convening earlier today.

The ICC Cricket World Cup League :-

Dassanayake will be filling a vacancy that was leaving open after Dav Whatmore stepped down in September. At the end of Nepal’s ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 matches in Oman.

Dassanayake has performed well as a coach at the associate level over the years. From 2007 to 2011, he was with Canada, whom he representing as a cricketer, in addition to emigrating from Sri Lanka in 2001.

He helped the team qualify for their third straight ODI World Cup. And was then selecting as Nepal’s coach.

In addition to his schedule, he said, “I am just happy and blessing that I have got the opportunity to work with the Cricket Association of Nepal.”

The Guidance for T20 World Cup :-

He was involved with Nepal setup from 2011 to 2016. Guiding them from Division Four of the World Cricket League (WCL) to Division One, the WCL Championship. And their first major ICC tournament, the 2014 T20 World Cup.

Additionally, he served as the head coach of the USA for just under three years, before resigning in July 2019.

He was in charge apart from being transferred from Division Four of USA WCL in November 2016 to ODI status in April 2019. Ranked in the top four in WCL Division Two.

As a cricketer, Pubudu Dassanayake, now 51, played 11 Tests and 16 ODIs as a wicketkeeper for Sri Lanka between 1993. And 1994 before Romesh Kaluwitharana became a keeper of interest for the national team.

By the turn of the millennium. He was spending his off-season playing as a foreign club Able for Centurion CC in the Toronto suburb of Brampton. By 2001, he had left Sri Lanka for good.

Although he did not expect to remain in Canada as a cricketer, his performances with Centurion CC helped him make the Canadian team after he completed his four-year residency requirement.

The Arrived in ICC At The Age of 34 :-

He arrived at the age of 34 at the 2005 ICC Trophy in Ireland. Where he helped Canada qualify for the 2007 World Cup. However, due to his commitments as duty manager at the Toronto Cricket, Skating, and Curling Club. He cannot participate in the tournament.

At the age of 36, he took over as coach for Canada after the 2007 World Cup and has been a business coach ever since.

Dav Whatmore, whose shoes Dassanayake will fill, was appointing to the position in Nepal in December 2020 and took charge in early 2021 with qualification for the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.

However, Dav Whatmore decided to quit early in his job, and it was understanding at the time that his decision was fueling by the COVID-19 pandemic, which made it difficult for him to see his family due to traveling restrictions.
