Veteran top-order batsman Punam Raut expressed her frustration over not making it into India’s squad for the Women’s ODI World Cup, saying, “It is very disappointing to be left out constantly.”

The 18-Player Squad For The Global Event :-

On Thursday, the BCCI named an 18-player squad for the upcoming global event to be holding in New Zealand in March-April, where Jemima Rodrigues and Shikha Pandey were also among the notable absences. However, the release declaring the squad did not explain the exclusion.

The 32-year-old Punam Raut was part of the ODI squad for the tour of England and Australia last year and was also including in the previous edition of the World Cup when India finished runners-up.

Raut scored 295 runs in six ODIs played in 2021 at an average of 73.75, including a century.

Punam Raut wrote on Twitter, “As one of the accomplished batsmen and consistent run-scorer for India, I am extremely disappointed to be a part of the World Cup squad.”

It’s So Frustrating To Be Outside :-

“In 2021, I averaged 73.75, scored 295 runs, including a century and two half-centuries in the six ODIs I have played. It is very hopeless to be out consistently even after performing. Having said that, I would like India My best wishes to all the players who lead.”

Raut has scored 2299 runs in 73 ODIs at an average of 34.83 and has been a part of three ODI World Cups and four T20I World Cups. This is not the first time a right-handed batsman will be beating by young, campaign batsmen.

Even in 2018, when the team organization started drafting Kishore Rodrigues, he was overlooking for a place in the ODI squad.

The Often Reviewed For Being Slow :-

Though Punam Raut has often been criticized for being slow, she improved her strike rate to 68.92 in 2021. His career strike rate was 56.96 before the start of 2021.

“I don’t think much about strike rate. I focus on my participation in the team,” Raut said during the ODI series against South Africa in March last year.

“As far as making a comeback is concerned [as I have in the past], it is important to be mentally strong. There are people who tell me that my strike rate is low, but I don’t let that worry me. I keep working on my game.”

In 2021, Punam Raut was also promoted from Grade C to B in the BCCI central contracts assigned to India Women, after a successful limited-overs series against South Africa at home.
