During the Mohali Test match against Sri Lanka, R Ashwin broke the Test record of former Indian captain Kapil Dev. Now R Ashwin has come second in terms of taking the most wickets for India in Test cricket, where Kapil Dev was the first. Kapil Dev took 434 wickets in Test cricket, but R Ashwin crossed this figure.

He said that I never dreamed that I would take more wickets than him because I wanted to be a batsman, especially at the age of eight when I started playing cricket. He said that batting was my hobby in 1994. Sachin Tendulkar was a rising star and Kapil Dev himself was a brilliant batsman. R Ashwin said that on the advice of my father, I used to bowl medium fast so that I could become the next Kapil Paaji.
