Ranji Trophy: Prithvi Shaw Started the Year with a Bang by Scoring a triple Century

New Delhi. Mumbai’s opening batsman Prithvi Shaw has started the new year with a bang by scoring a triple century in the Ranji Trophy match. Before the India vs Australia series starting on 9th February, this triple century of Prithvi can once again open the doors of Team India for him. Prithvi Shaw scored 300 runs at a strike rate of 93.10 with 41 fours and 2 sixes against Assam in the Ranji Trophy. This is the best performance of Prithvi in first class cricket so far. Earlier, Prithvi’s highest score in first class was 202 runs.

Prithvi had completed his century in 107 balls. He played 235 balls to score a double century. Prithvi played 326 balls to complete the triple century. Prithvi Shaw started playing with 240 runs this morning and soon converted this score into a triple century. Shaw has become the eighth Mumbai batsman to reach this milestone. Prior to Prithvi, Vijay Merchant, Ajit Wadekar, Sunil Gavaskar, Sanjay Manjrekar, Wasim Jaffer, Rohit Sharma and Sarfaraz Khan have scored triple centuries for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy. Wasim Jaffer has scored a triple century for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy twice.

Prithvi Shaw Performing Continuously

This is Prithvi Shaw’s first score in this season of Ranji Trophy, which has crossed the 100 mark. He had scored only 160 runs in his last seven innings at an average of 22.85 and a high score of 68. Prithvi Shaw has been running out of all formats for Team India for the last few months. The 23-year-old last played a match for India in July 2021 in T20 International. Despite scoring consistently in the domestic circuit, he has not been selected in Team India. He was the second highest run-scorer in this season’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with 332 runs at a strike rate of 181.42 and a highest score of 134 against Assam. He had the best average in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, scoring 217 runs in seven innings. And averaged over 50 in List A cricket.

Ajinkya Rahane also scored a century

On the other hand, Ajinkya Rahane, who is running out of Team India, has also completed a century. Rahane completed his century in 195 balls with 8 fours and a strike rate of 51.27. On the basis of the brilliant innings of Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane, Mumbai has crossed the score of 500 runs. In this season of Ranji Trophy, Rahane has already done the feat of scoring a double century against Hyderabad.

Will Team India Make a Comeback?

Both Prithvi and Rahane have been running out of Team India for some time now. Rahane played his last Test match against South Africa on 14 January 2022, while Prithvi Shaw played the last Test match against Australia for Team India on 19 December 2020. Since then both the players have been out of the team due to poor performance, but now after getting back their form in the Ranji Trophy match, both these players have given their message to the selectors. Now it has to be seen whether the selectors give a chance to these two players in the Border Gavaskar Trophy of 4 Test matches to be played between India and Australia.
