New Delhi: Prior to that Ravi Shastri had separated from Team India after the T20 World Cup 2021. Shastri’s first stint as head coach began in 2017 after which he was reappointed in 2019. The Indian cricket team is going through a period of change at the moment. In place of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma has been made the captain of the T20 and ODI team.
Now in his place, Rahul Dravid has taken over as the head coach of Team India. The pair of Shastri and Kohli rocked in all three formats but failed to win the ICC trophy. Recalling his tenure as coach, Shastri has made a sensational claim. Shastri says that some people did not want him to become the coach of the Indian team.

Ravi Shastri statement to The Times of India
Ravi Shastri said in an interview to Times of India, “During my second term, I was embroiled in a major controversy and it was literally an egg on the faces of those who wanted to take me away from this responsibility. They chose someone and after 9 months, they came back to the same man they had thrown out.” He further said that it was the same people who did not want Bharat Arun to join the coaching staff.
Shastri said about this, “Yes they did not even want me to give Bharat Arun as bowling coach and today when I look back I see how things have changed. The person he didn’t want as a bowling coach. His role was brilliant in this role. I am not pointing any finger at people. But there were some special people. I must say that he tried his best that I become the head coach of Team India. But this is life.”

Ravi Shastri Was the Best in Test
Team India played a total of 43 Test matches during Shastri’s tenure, winning 25 and losing 13. 5 matches were drawn. Talking about ODIs, Team India played 79 matches in which 53 were won and 23 were lost. Two matches were tied and one was inconclusive. Talking about T20, after playing 68 matches, India won 44 and lost in 20. 2 matches were tied and two were inconclusive.
